A cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. Cochlear implants bypass the normal hearing process. They have a sound processor that resides on the outside of the skin (and generally worn behind the ear) which contains microphones, electronics, battery, and a coil which transmits a signal to the implant. The implant has a coil to receive signals, electronics, and an array of electrodes which is placed into the cochlea, which stimulate the cochlear nerve. The surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Surgical risks are minimal but can include tinnitus and dizziness. There is controversy around the devices; much of the strongest objection to cochlear implants has come from the Deaf community. For some in the deaf community, cochlear implants are an affront to their culture, which as some view it, is a minority threatened by the hearing majority.[www.shravanicentre.in} Borivali (west)

Style of hearing aid can be Body warn where the hearing aid is a bit bulky Behind the ear (BTE) wherein the instrument rests behind the ear and is attached to a custom made hearing aid In the ear (ITE) where the device is custom made hearing aid. In the canal (ITC) where they fit only in the outer portion of the ear canal. Completely in the canal (CIC) which is the smallest device available and is cosmetically desirable because it fits deeply in the canal and takes advantages of the ears natural resonance and shape.
